Four and Five Year Old Kindergarten:
Children who turn four years old before September 1st enroll in our full day K4 (four year old kindergarten) program and children who are five years old by September 1st of the current school year enroll in our K5 program. Our K4 and K5 children are full integrated into all aspects of school life. First and Second Grade:
Our 1st and 2nd Grade children are busy learning in all content areas. Much time is dedicated to learning how to read and to gain a deep understanding of mathematical principles. Our Reading Textbook Series is Reading Street and our Math Text is Go Math. We teach Lucy Calkin’s Writers’ Workshop along with a full Science, Social Studies and Religion curriculum. The children attend Physical Education, Art, Library and Music once or twice weekly. In Second Grade, the classroom teachers prepare the children for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. All of the teachers hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, and are certified by the Department of Public Instruction to teach at the Primary level.
Third through Fifth Grade:
In 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade the academic program becomes more rigorous with an emphasis on reading to learn rather than learning to read. This shift requires the children develop a higher level of independence and autonomy over the learning process. The children utilize whole group instruction, reading and math centers, work on larger research based projects and longer writing assignments becomes more central to the work in the classroom. Religious instruction now has a larger reflective component drawing the children into a deeper and more personal relationship with Jesus.

Sixth through Eighth Grade:
In 6th, 7th and 8th grade the students are given a lot of autonomy and taught to navigate an educational environment that requires independent learning and organizational skills while still nestled with a K4 through 8th grade school. The students move from classroom to classroom, each course having a faculty member who is an expert in a given field. The Middle School Reading Curriculum uses Classics such as To Kill a Mockingbird, The Pearl or the play Driving Miss Daisy to develop in students the skill of literary analysis. Students complete PreAlgebra in 7th grade and Algebra in 8th grade. Our Science program is lab based and culminates with students dissecting sharks! ASCS students are phenomenal writers often getting their work published! To get a glimpse of our Middle School, please peruse the teacher webpages.
